Vile heavily-tattooed child abuser who bashed a two-year-old girl so badly she broke her back and her pelvis could soon be walking the streets

  • Jesse Lee James, 29, pleaded guilty to bashing the toddler in court on Thursday
  • She had paralysis of the bowel and fractures to her vertebrae and pelvic bone
  • He's previously been in jail for other offences including assaulting a girl, three

A child abuser who beat a two-year-old girl so savagely that she broke her back and pelvis could soon be released from jail after serving just two years.

The toddler is the second child Jesse Lee James, 29, has abused, after already having been convicted of assaulting a three-year-old girl.

The Fraser Coast man pleaded guilty to bashing the two-year-old in Maryborough District Court on Thursday, the Courier-Mail reported.

Child Health and Safety caseworkers went to the girl's home and noticed that her stomach was extremely swollen.

The little girl spent 15 days in hospital with paralysis of the bowel and fractures to her vertebrae and pelvic bone.

Judge Tony Moynihan described the girl's horrific injuries as being caused by 'high energy force'.

He said that James had a 'callous disregard for the welfare of the child'.

The child won't suffer any long term physical injuries, but Judge Moynihan said she will be affected in other ways.

'She has been adversely affected as a result of the offending and the devastating effect your actions had,' Judge Moynihan said.

Police described James as 'self-serving' in an interview following the attack.

James had previously spent time in prison for other offences, including the assault of a three-year-old girl.

The court heard James grew up in a rough family. His brother took his own life and James often considered suicide.

Despite his unfortunate background, Judge Moynihan said he had to put the safety of children in the community first.

He gave James a head sentence of six years behind bars.

James already spent around two years in jail while waiting for his court hearing, which means he is eligible for parole immediately.
