The donation will directly support SHIELDS for Families’ 39 programs and services, which reach more than 10,000 children and parents every year. These programs encompass the full spectrum of human needs—from basic needs, like shelter, housing, and transportation to substance-abuse treatment and child protective services. SHIELDS offers children and families the chance to succeed—for children to excel in school, and for families to break the cycle of poverty.
“We are thrilled to be able to present this donation to SHIELDS for families,” said John Kotal, president of Molina Healthcare of California. “The work SHIELDS does is an extension of Molina’s mission to help people in need live healthy and fulfilling lives. With this donation, SHIELDS and Molina are able to ensure basic needs are met as well as address specific issues affecting California such as the opioid epidemic and access to behavioral health services.”
“We are grateful for Molina’s generous donation,” said Dr. Kathy Icenhower, chief executive officer of SHIELDS for Families. “This donation will support SHIELDS’ efforts to ensure our clients’ basic needs are met by providing resources and support including housing, transportation, substance-abuse treatment and other tools that play a key role in helping people get back on their feet.”
Molina Healthcare hosted a luncheon to present the check to Marcus Holcombe, resource specialist at SHIELDS for Families, and Veronica Clanton-Higgins, training manager and clinical training program coordinator.
