Mumbai on Friday evening witnessed thunderstorms and heavy rainfall affecting low-lying areas, causing water-logging and traffic jams in the city.
Severe thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds exceeding 56-60 kmph hit Mumbai and nearby regions. The IMD department has also predicted thunderstorms and heavy rainfall for the next four hours.
Also, flights are delayed by 30 minutes on average, due to heavy rains in the city for the last 2 hours, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (MIAL) Public Relations Officer said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the maximum city was lashed by heavy rainfall during early morning hours causing severe water-logging problems and creating visibility issues. Railway tracks at Sion railway station were also submerged in water.
On Wednesday, the MeT department had predicted heavy spells of rain in the city in the next 48 hours.
IMD Deputy Director-General KS Hosalikar on Friday evening tweeted, "few stations reported heavy rainfall in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Rest it was moderate as expected. Today watch for more rains please."

"Today's rainfall forecast for 24 hours. Heavy rainfall over Konkan region including Mumbai. Moderate rainfall up to 40 mm in Vidarbha and some parts of Marathwada, South Madhya Maharashtra," he said in another tweet.
