MANGALURU: Nayan Kumar, a businessman and his wife Yamini Acharya, a software engineer, are on a dream ride across India. The expedition was flagged off at the Jawa showroom in the City at 6.30am on Friday. Despite heavy rain, the couple who have been married for 14 months left Mangaluru on their brand new Jawa 42. By 3.30pm, they had reached Dharwad and stopped for lunch. Yamini told TOI, "We hope to end the ride for the day at Satara in
Maharashtra. It has been fantastic so far. Lunch was delayed, because we could not find a suitable restaurant. From Dharwad, I plan to ride. We hope to cover an average of 650 kms per day. We have been planning this ride since long and hope to complete this trip in a month’s time.”
While returning, they hope to ride on the K2K route (Kashmir to Kanyakumari). On the way to Leh, they plan to visit Golden Temple and Wagah border in Amritsar and
Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu. They plan to spend nearly 15 days in Leh and Ladakh. “We make it a point to go on long rides every month covering nearly 700-800 kms. Our last long trip was from Bengaluru-Mumbai covering nearly 1000 kms in 19 hours, about two weeks ago. We have fixed a tentative time table for this ride and we hope to halt at Vadodara in
Gujarat, Nagaur in Rajasthan before reaching Amritsar,” said Yamini who works in Bengaluru. Nayan, a technician owns Mobile Cellular service Centre at Car Street and his wife who works in Bengaluru have been saving up for this trip for a long time.
Nayan and Yamini's families and friends and various motorcycles clubs of Mangaluru-United Bikers of Mangalore - the Jawa Tribe, Mangalore Bulls, and Mangalore Jawa & Yezdi Motorcycle Club have supported the expedition.
