Gujarat: Now, file online applications for duplicate driving licences

AHMEDABAD: The next time you need a duplicate driving licence, you may not need to visit the RTO office. The state government has decided to allow applications for duplicate licences to be submitted online.
The road transport department has in a notification stated that earlier those who needed a duplicate licence had to file a police complaint and then go to the RTO office and apply for a duplicate licence.
Ahmedabad RTO SP Muniya said, "According to the new arrangement, a person has to just attach a photocopy of his licence and apply online with the required fee.
The new driving license will reach his residence in five working days."
Muniya said that no changes will be made in the existing licence in response to online applications. For any change of address or other details, a person will have to come to RTO Ahmedabad.

A senior road transport officer said that on an average around 50 applications are received daily for duplicate licences.
The officer said that this was creating unnecessary crowding at the RTO office as applicants were to pay their fees and then deposit applications with the officer after verification.
