Baby crocodile ventures in residential colony near Vishwamitri River

VADODARA: A one-and-feet long crocodile that had crawled in the Umang Society in Fatehgunj kept the locals on the edge until it was rescued by the Wildlife Rescue Trust (WRT) volunteers on Tuesday night.
A WRT volunteer said that he got a call at about 12.30am. “Vivek Dubey, a local, had spotted the crocodile that crawling in the colony. It was earlier resting under a car parked inside the colony,” said Arvind Pawar of the WRT. The crocodile was rescued and handed over to the forest department, he added.

Pawar said that the baby crocodile had ventured out of the Vishwamitri River that is located about 200 metres away from the residential colony.
“In monsoons, as water levels go up in the river, baby crocodiles often venture out,” Pawar said. The Vishwamitri River is home to nearly 250 crocodiles and every monsoon, dozens of crocodiles venture out of the river and are often spotted in or around the residential areas.
