Karnataka: There's lot in a name for Yediyurappa, who drops 'd' and adds 'i' to his name

BENGALURU: Adding the 'i’ back and dropping the 'd', Karnataka chief minister designate BS Yediyurappa made the first change officially in the spelling of his name before going to meet governor Vajubhai R Vala to stake claim to form the government on Friday.

Following the letter addressed to the governor and later the invite for his swearing-in at Raj Bhavan on Friday evening, Yeddyurappa has become Yediyurappa. According to his aides, he was advised after two different spellings had led to confusion pertaining to his bank accounts and Aadhaar card. "His auditors asked him to maintain uniformity in the name spelling," they added.
Yediyurappa had always spelt his name with the 'i' from the time he entered politics. However, in 2007 after becoming the CM, his secretariat issued a statement to drop the 'i' and add 'd'. The spelling was apparently changed on the advise of numerologists. When the media started to shorten his name to Yeddy, there was another request as in Kannada, Yeddy means a moron and said he can be addressed as BSY.
