Tansa, which supplies 10% water, overflows

Tansa supplies around 400 million litres daily, almost 10% of the stock supplied to Mumbai.
MUMBAI: With the monsoon active in the city and its neighbourhood, another lake supplying potable water to Mumbai started overflowing on Thursday afternoon. Tansa, in Shahpur taluka of Thane district, started overflowing at 2.50pm. Tulsi started overflowing on July 12.

Tansa supplies around 400 million litres daily, almost 10% of the stock supplied to Mumbai. Its full supply level is 128.63 metres, and it was expected to overflow, as its level had reached 128.23 metres on Thursday morning. The stock in catchment area lakes rose significantlywith almost all recording over 100mm of rain. On July 25, total stock stood at 8.37 lakh million litres or 58% of capacity. Till a day ago, the quantum was 7.87 lakh million litres or 54%. A month ago, the stock was below 10%. On June 29, the total stood at 76,833 million litres.
Despite the rise, total stock in lakes is less than last year for the corresponding date. On July 25 last year, the quantum was 11.91 lakh million litres or 82.34% of required stock. In catchment areas, on July 24-25 (6am-6am), six of the seven lakes recorded over 100mm of rain. Bhatsa recorded 119mm and Modak Sagar 172mm.
