In the Union Budget government announced a subsidy for electronic vehicles to promote the use of it, which helps in curbing air pollution. Taking a cue from there, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar drove in an electric car to attend the Assembly session.
While entering Assembly building, Nitish Kumar said, "You feel very happy that you are not harming the environment. The car is very comfortable and the design is also good. It is also a cost-effective vehicle, where you spend Rs 5 to 6 rupees per kilometre on fuel, here only 80 paise per kilometre of electricity is utilised."
He also added that this car runs for 150 hours while charging only for four hours. He drove in a Tata car, which cost Rs 11 lakh. His driver Ganesh Prasad said that the electric car was smooth to drive. "Unlike other cars where we have to change gears, here there are just two options, one is top gear and other is reverse, which makes it easy for everyone to drive," said Prasad.
Sanjay Agarwal, Principal Secretary, Transport, who received the Chief Minister at the Assembly said that a charging point is being installed at Secretariat and Nitish's residence to avoid inconvenience. Electronic vehicles will have a green number plate to create awareness of the vehicle.
Bihar government is now buying six eco-friendly cars. To promote this initiative of environmental preservation they are also providing a 50% discount on the registration.
The registration fee for fuel vehicle is 10 to 12 %, the same for an electronic vehicle is slashed by half.
The Chief Minister will now use this vehicle within Patna, and will also be a part of their cartridge.
The cars will be available to ordinary people in Patna within 10 days of booking.
