DRASS (KARGIL): Army chief General
Bipin Rawat on Friday promised a sustained education outreach to help militancy-hit families in Jammu & Kashmir pick up the pieces, but warned that "gun and man" would be "separated" if any soldier was attacked in the valley.
"The gun and the man will be separated. The gun will go to the Army and the man to the grave," he said, in the same breath warning
Pakistan of a "bloodier nose" if it tried repeating a Kargil-like "misadventure".
On the 20th anniversary of the
Kargil conflict, Rawat announced free coaching for
NEET aspirants in the valley on the lines of Super 30-IIT, an Army initiative in collaboration with various PSUs.
"We are trying to approach civil society and people at large - the maulvis, parents, sisters and brothers of terrorists - to say that this (militancy) is not the way forward. They have to shun the gun. They have to look for good jobs. Parents do not make their sons PhDs and graduates to pick up guns. They do that in the hope that their sons will look after them in their old age," he said.
Attacking Pakistan for keeping Kashmir burning, General Rawat said there was no longer a sliver of doubt about who was responsible for sponsoring terrorism on Indian soil. President
Ram Nath Kovind, who was to attend the programme, could not reach Drass because of inclement weather.
