PATNA: Chief minister
Nitish Kumar on Thursday said all the families hit by acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) would be covered under the state government’s welfare schemes.
AES has so far claimed lives of at least 162 children in the state this year.
The CM made the announcement after holding a meeting with a team of medical experts from the AIIMS-Patna, IGIMS-Patna, PMCH, NMCH and SKMCH- Muzaffarpur. Ayurvedic doctors also attended the meeting held at the 1, Aney Marg residence of the CM.
The meeting was held to ascertain the root cause behind the outbreak of the disease. Nitish said the affected families would get benefits of the schemes on the basis of survey report on economic and social condition of the families. The survey is still underway, he added.
Agreeing with some suggestions made by Ayurvedic experts to contain the disease, the CM directed the doctors of medical colleges to study the side effects of drugs on the victims. Nitish pointed out that a similar meeting was held in 2015 to ascertain the cause behind the outbreak of AES.
He said the affected families were being connected with JEEVIKA. The organization is also being entrusted to create awareness among the people about the disease. Toilets and drinking water facilities are also being provided to the affected people, he added.
The CM said some steps would be taken to provide relief to the affected people after the receipt of the survey report. “All possible measures are being taken to contain the disease and provide relief to the affected families,” he said.
Muzaffarpur happened to be the epicentre of the disease. Vaishali, East Champaran and Sheohar were the other affected districts in north
Bihar.
