CHENNAI: A police sub-inspector, who was spotted riding a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet, was placed under suspension on Friday.
This is the first case of a cop being placed under suspension in Tamil Nadu for violating the helmet rule.
Mambalam police station sub-inspector (law and order) S Madhan Kumar has been placed under suspension “for his dereliction of duty by riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet on the South Usman Road, T Nagar, at 9.10am on Friday, by violating a high court order and also a circular issued by the DGP,” read the suspension order issued by joint commissioner of police, South Zone, C Mageshwari.

Madhan Kumar attended the roll call at the police station around 7am and later left for patrolling on his official two-wheeler (TN 01G 5375) without wearing a helmet, which is mandatory.
Sources said a photograph of Madhan riding the two-wheeler without wearing a helmet had been received on the GCTP (Greater Chennai Traffic Police) citizen services app.
