Surat: Sangita Patil, BJP MLA from Limbayat assembly constituency, has demanded imposition of Disturbed Areas Act in her constituency to prevent people belonging to minority community from acquiring residential properties of Hindus.
Patil met chief minister Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar on Friday and submitted a memorandum demanding imposition of Disturbed Area Act in her constituency.
‘Gujarat Prohibition of Transfer of Immovable Property and Protection of Tenants from Eviction from Premises in Disturbed Areas Act, 1991’ ban sale of property by a member of one religious community to a member of another community, without prior approval of district collector.

Patil added, “Societies once dominated by Hindus like Govind Nagar, Bharati Nagar, Madanpur, Bhavna Park etc. have been taken over by people belonging to minority community. I have been demanding imposition of Disturbed Areas Act in Limbayat for the past two years. Many Hindus are lured by high prices offered to them for their properties.”
Aslam Cyclewala, Congress councillor from Limbayat, told TOI, “There have been no communal riots in the city after 2002. The claims of Limbayat MLA are totally baseless.”
