CHENNAI:
IIT-Madras' Avishkar Hyperloop team made a notable debut at the finals of the
SpaceX Hyperloop Pod
Competition 2019.
This is a global competition organised by SpaceX, the US aerospace manufacturer and transportation company founded by
Elon Musk.
Of the 1,600 team which participated, IIT-M has emerged as the one of the top 21 teams.
It also became the only Asian team to qualify for the final round (testing and evaluation of actual prototype) which took place at the Space X headquarters in California, US, on July 21.
According to a press release, more than 120 tests were held and the IIT-M team cleared more than half of them, placing itself over several other finalists.
However, the team couldn't make it to the top four. It secured the eighth spot.
The team also interacted with Musk. "The team asked Musk when he is planning to bring his company, Tesla, to India. He replied that it is probably going to happen in a year’s time," the press release said.
