Kanpur: Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday arrested two criminals for allegedly manhandling a GRP jawan and snatching his pistol on Pratapgarh-Bhopal Express at Magarwara railway station on the night of July 17. The looted pistol was also recovered from their possession.
Those arrested have been identified as Vimal of Maswasi village of Unnao and Arif, a resident of Jamuniya Bagh in Rail Bazar area of Kanpur.
Their accomplice Azad, a native of Husain Nagar, Unnao is absconding. As per the arrested criminals, the magazine of the pistol is in possession of Azad. Arif told investigators that he had buried the pistol near his house in Rail Bazar. It was recovered by a police team.
SP (Railways) Saumitra Yadav had suspended the GRP personnel, Manoj Kumar, and ordered a probe into the incident.

To recall, when Pratapgarh-Bhopal Express was stationed at Magarwara railway station on Kanpur-Lucknow route following a red signal, GRP personnel Manoj Kumar and Satish Chandra Sharma, who were on escort duty, came across a few men suspiciously travelling in a coach. When the GRP personnel tried to question them, they entered into a scuffle and manhandled them. They later snatched Manoj Kumar’s pistol and managed to flee taking the cover of darkness.
“The two criminals, Vimal and Arif, have been arrested. Raids are underway to nab their third aide Azad, who is absconding with the pistol’s magazine. Azad has nearly 18 cases of crime registered against him with GRP Unnao and Kanpur,” said SP railways Yadav.
