2020 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Flaunts Its Supersized Body In New Spy Photos

Spy photographers have caught the redesigned Mercedes S-Class on multiple occasions and now we’re getting a glimpse at the upcoming Maybach variant.

Set to become the company’s flagship sedan, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class features a revised grille with vertical bars. The model also has slender LED headlights which reside above large air intakes that have a chrome surround.

Of course, the biggest change – figuratively and literally – is the car’s extended wheelbase. There’s no word on how long the model is, but it’s significantly larger than the standard S-Class and has been equipped with longer rear doors.

Mercedes is staying tight-lipped about specifics, but the current Maybach S-Class is 215 inches (5462 mm) long and has a wheelbase that spans 132.5 inches (3365 mm). Both those dimensions are 7.9 inches (200 mm) longer than on the standard model.

The interior should echo the standard S-Class and include a digital instrument cluster and a massive touchscreen infotainment system with a portrait orientation. Leather upholstery, wood trim and metallic accents will also be abundant.

The front passenger compartment will be undeniably luxurious, but the Maybach is all about the people in the back. Like its predecessor, the car should have two executive rear seats that recline and feature a powered footrest. The seats will also have heating, ventilation and massage functions.

While the rear seats are the coup de grace, buyers can expect a fully loaded luxury sedan with ambient lighting, power sun shades and an Air Balance cabin fragrance system. Other highlights should include a four-zone automatic climate control system, soft-close doors and illuminated sill plates. We can also expect folding rear tables, heated / cooled cup holders, a rear refrigerator and optional champagne flutes.

Mercedes has been slowly phasing out their V12 engine, but previous reports have suggested it will still be offered in the range-topping Maybach. If that’s the case, we can expect a familiar twin-turbo 6.0-liter unit that produces around 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS) and 738 lb-ft (1000 Nm) of torque.
