A man who burned down four hectares of sugarcane in a field after he attempted to cook a snake he found slithering across his stomach has been jailed.
Scott Stoker, 32, was sentenced to two years behind bars after he went on a 12-hour crime spree which ended in Bundaberg, Queensland, on May 30.
Bundaberg District Court heard on Wednesday the extraordinary sequence of events started when Stoker became irate at a Centrelink staffer over his payment, the Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

He hurled his phone at a wall then pulled out a gun-shaped lighter and threatened to 'come back and shoot' the Centrelink worker.
As he left the centre, he physically assaulted a stranger who walked passed him on the street.
'Don't f*****g stare at me, c**t,' Stoker yelled at the stranger.
He then punched the man in the face and neck, before running to a nearby cane field on Rankin Road where he fell asleep.
The court heard Stoker had woken up to a carpet snake slithering on him.
He caught the serpent and cooked it on an open fire, but due to 'strong winds', the blaze quickly spread around the sugarcane field.
Around 4.13 hectares were lost, worth an estimated $20,000.
Stoker then found shelter in what he believed to be an abandoned home.
He used a screwdriver to get in, scrounged around for food - damaging shelves as he searched.
He fell asleep but was awoken to a woman in her 80s frantically calling the police.
Upon his arrest, he became violent with officers and even headbutted windows and pulled an officer's hair.

Judge Jennifer Rosengren sentenced Stoker to two years jail, with a parole release date of January 12, 2020.
