In his message for the XXIV World Tourism Day, John Paul II explained that this sector “should be considered as a particular expression of social life, with economic, financial, cultural implications and with decisive consequences for individuals and peoples. Its direct relationship with the integral development of the person should direct its service, as with other human activities, towards the building of civilization in the most authentic and complete sense, to the building up of the “civilization of love”.
