PUNE: The
Samarth police on Wednesday arrested a man and booked a woman for attacking and abusing a
woman policemen over a dispute of clicking their motorcycle’s photo for stopping on zebra line at
Banerjee chowk around 5.40pm.
The arrested include
Sagar Jhambulkar (27) from Kasarwadi road.
Police has served notice on Jhambulkar’s friend under section 141 of the
Code of Criminal Procedure directing her to appear before the investigation officer and extend co-operation in conducting investigation on Thursday but she did not turn up at the police station.
Senior inspector
Balkrishna Kadam in-charge of the Samarth police station on Thursday said,“The woman policeman was taking action against traffic violators at Banerjee chowk when she spotted the man (Jhambulkar) riding on motorcycle had stopped on the zebra line. The policeman clicked photograph of the motorcycle and posted it on Satark Punekar app for taking action against him.”
Kadam said,”The motorcyclist drove ahead after the traffic signal turned green but he suddenly took a u-turn and returned back where the policeman was discharging her duty for taking action against other traffic violators. The woman riding pillion picked up a dispute with the policeman over the issue of clicking the photograph without seeking their consent and hurled abuses on her in a foul language.”
“The policeman explained to her the reason behind clicking the photo and posting it on the app for taking action against the rider but the woman who was in no mood to listen suddenly attacked her, snatched her smart phone and threw it aside after the dispute between them became heated,” he said.
“The bike rider also abused the policeman in a filthy language. A beat marshal brought them to the police station for taking action where the rider working as medical representative was arrested and his friend was served with a notice,” Kadam stated.
The incident happened in the presence of two eye witnesses. The woman later tendered an apology to the policeman. The cop has lodged an FIR against the duo for obstructing her from discharging duty and voluntarily causing grevious hurt among other sections of the Indian Penal Code, he added.
Meanwhile, Jhambulkar was produced before the court and he was remanded to magisterial custody remand for 14 days. He was later sent to the Yerawada central jail.
