₹1.46 lakh in unaccounted cash seized

Flying squad team officials seized ₹1.46 lakh cash from a mini-van on the Vellore-Katpadi road on Thursday.

As part of the model code of conduct, the Election Commission has announced that anyone carrying more than ₹50,000 in cash should carry supportive documents.

Following this, the flying squad and static surveillance teams have been conducting checks on the movement of cash and valuables in Vellore district.

A team of officials carrying out checks on the Vellore-Katpadi roadintercepted a van carrying vegetables to the market and found ₹1.46 lakh in cash.

The occupant claimed to be a vegetable trader from Palathuvannan village and said he was carrying cash to pay his dues.

Since he could not produce valid documents, the cash was seized by officials and submitted in the taluk treasury office, an election official said.
