A boy hit by a bus at the Gold Coast on Thursday afternoon has been taken to hospital in a serious condition with a leg injury.

Emergency services were called to Cavill Avenue at Surfers Paradise just before 5pm following the accident.

Critical care paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit arrived on scene to treat the boy.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
