CCP to enforce pay parking along 3 roads from Sept 15

Panaji: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) from September 15 will start charging for parking along Atmaram Borkar Road, 18th June Road and Garcia de Orta Garden Road in the city, informed the city Mayor Uday Madkaikar.

Addressing the media, Madkaikar informed that by Monday, a tender pertaining to the pay parking will be floated, inviting bids, and then a contract will be signed with the successful bidder.

He further said that with the enforcement of pay parking scheme, the residents and visitors will witness a discipline on the city roads.

A proposal for notifying the road stretch from Down the Road’ pub junction up to Old Secretariat building in the city and main road from Miramar Circle to Sharada Mandir has been sent to North Goa Collector for notifying as a pay parking zone, he said.

He said that the Panaji MLA Atanasio Monseratte alias Babush has sponsored 200 traffic clamps for Panaji Traffic Cell to bring discipline on the city roads

Brendon de Souza, traffic police inspector from the City Traffic Cell, informed that old clamps are all worn out, and “we were running short of clamps to enforce discipline on the city roads, and so contacted city MLA, who promised to provide the clamps.”

“With 200 clamps in hand, we will be better equipped to enforce traffic rules,” he further said.

Brendon said, “Unique gesture from Babush will allow the traffic police staff of the city cell to enforce the traffic norms in the city precincts thereby helping in maintaining smooth traffic flow.”

“The MLA will also help in repainting the zebra crossings, no parking zones, and zones for physically challenged at various spots in the city besides installing new traffic signages in the city,’’ said the traffic police inspector.

Meanwhile, the CCP has rejected the proposal of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) of handing over four projects – rejuvenated cluster of lanes of Altinho-Panaji steps: phase I, rejuvenated cluster of lanes of Altinho-Panaji steps: phase II, refurbished pedestrian bridge linking Central Library and Creek, and redeveloped internal lanes of Mala, to the corporation for maintenance.

The Mayor further said that there was “a gross violation of all norms in carrying out the works and it will prove to be white elephant like Miramar-Dona Paula road, which was constructed haphazardly at a cost of 100 crore without leaving a room

for drains.”
