The State government on Thursday told the High Court of Karnataka that some offices of the agencies of the State government and a temple built illegally on parts of a lake in Kanakapura have been demolished and there are no further encroachments of the lake called ‘Pete Kere’.

PIL petition

A statement was filed during the hearing of a PIL petition, filed in 2017 by Ravikumar Kanchanahalli, a social activist, which had alleged that the authorities have failed to take action against illegal structures built using lake area. The construction of buildings on the lake area, measuring around 2 acres and 19 guntas by the Karnataka State Horticultural Development Agency, and buildings put up by the Agricultural Marketing Committee on an area measuring 1 acre and 32 guntas were among the demolished structures, apart from a temple built in 1978 on 8 guntas of lake area, the government stated in its affidavit.

Further hearing has been adjourned till August 8.
