Man detained at Patna airport for carrying unlicensed pistol

PATNA: Security Force personnel at the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna detained a man who was found to be carrying an unlicensed pistol in his luggage on Thursday. The man was travelling to New Delhi from Patna airport.
According to the CISF sources, it was around 8.30am when the passenger, identified as Mohammad Ijaaz, reached the airport to board the IndiGo flight 6E-6367 to New Delhi, from Patna airport. The pistol was recovered from his luggage, which was wrapped in a home-cooked food packet.
Sources at IndiGo airlines said, "Ijaaz (31) is a native of Nawada district and lives in a rented home in Sabzibagh locality of Patna under Pirbahore police station. He was caught at the security check-point with the gun by the CISF personnel. The gun was nicely tucked in a food packet in his luggage. Ijaaz was about to board the flight to New Delhi.”
The airline sources added, “Ijaaz was going to take the Air India flight from Delhi to Dubai on Friday.”

The man was taken to a separate room and investigated. When questioned by the CISF personnel, Ijaaz failed to tell the whereabouts of the weapon. He was then handed over to the airport police authorities.
Airport police station SHO Jai Shanker Prasad said that Ijaaz worked as an electrician in Sabzibagh and was going to Dubai. “He claimed that he had no clue about the pistol and how it got into his bag. Police are verifying his claims,” he said.
