Nagpur: A ‘honey trap’ led to the kidnapping of a 26-year-old man, who was later rescued by police on July 22. Sanjay Shahu, a resident of Vijay Nagar, was allegedly kidnapped by seven persons, who demanded Rs1 lakh from him, after he had gone for a long drive with a woman.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sonu Chakradhar, Rashika Ghate, Ranjana Parate, Sangram alias Raja Pathak, Gaurav Dhawle, Ganesh Ninave and one Nirmalkar.
According to police, Shahu had been receiving a call from Ranjana for some days. On July 22, Ranjana again called Shahu and asked him to meet her near Kamal Chowk. The duo then went on a long drive, driving from Sitabuldi to Amravati Road.
The duo was speaking to each other when suddenly two SUVs approached them and the accused pushed Shahu inside and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not ask his family and friends to bring Rs1 lakh.
Shahu then called his friend and asked him to bring the money. However, the friend approached Pachpaoli police station, who swung into action and laid a trap. The accused were arrested from Agrasen Chowk. Cops have also seized two SUVs which were used by the miscreants.
