Mysuru: The Mysuru Medical College and Research Insititute will construct two
hostels with 150 rooms each for undergraduate boys and girls on its premises soon. While the men’s hostel will come up on the premises of the institute, the women’s hostel will come up on the existing UG Medical Hostel on KRS Road. There will be three students in each room.
“The tender for the proposed 150-room men’s hostel for
undergraduate students has been floated. The foundation for the project will be laid at the earliest. We have proposed construction of rooms in such a way that it can accommodate at least three students in each rooms,” said Nanjaraj, director and dean,
MMCRI.
“The women’s hostel, with 150 rooms. will be coming up on the premises of women’s medical hostel on KRS Road. The tender for hostel will be floated at the earliest. It will be constructed on a cost-sharing basis, that is, 60% from Centre and 40% from the state,” said Dr Nanjaraj. He also mentioned that these new facilities will come in handy once the MBBS seats are enhanced from the existing 150 students to 250 students. MMCRI have requested the MCI to increase the MBBS seats from 150 to 250. If everything goes well, MMCRI may get the nod for it next year itself.
Once both the proposed hostels become reality, they can easily accommodate 450 students, which will really be a great boost to the institute. Apart from hostels, MMCRI will also be constructing a separate building for library. Some portions of the existing men and women’s hostels are in a bad condition.
