Mamata to unveil Karunanidhi’s statue

Structure to come up at Murasoli office

All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will unveil a statue of the late DMK leader and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at the office of the party organ Murasoli on the occasion of his first death anniversary on August 7. Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani will preside over the event.

The statue will depict Karunanidhi, who was also a veteran journalist, sitting and writing with a pen. After the unveiling of the statue at 5 p.m., a public meeting will be held at the YMCA grounds in Royapettah from 5.30 p.m., party sources said, adding that all alliance partners had been invited to the events.

DMK president M.K. Stalin will welcome the gathering at the public meeting and Mr. Veeramani will preside over the event. Besides Ms. Banerjee, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, Congress leader and Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and noted lyricist Vairamuthu will be among the dignitaries addressing the gathering.
