HYDERABAD: A staffer of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) stabbed his senior colleague for giving 'good' rating in the annual performance report. Due to the rating, the accused did not get a salary increment.
The incident happened at CDFD office in Uppal on Thursday afternoon. The accused idenified as MP Sharma, son of SP Sharma, 50, of Khairatabad. Sharma, is a junior assistant in the accounts section of CDFD. The victim, E Venkateswara Rao, 55, is the section officer of stores and purchases department in CDFD.
According to police, till January 2019, Venkateswara Rao was section officer of the accounts section and as part of his duty, he has prepared the annual performance reports of the accounts sections employees including Sharma’s. “We were told that only if an employee gets - very good or excellent - rating, he or she gets a salary increment. Because Sharma only got - good - rating, he did not get an increment and he was upset,” Uppal DI S Ravi Babu said.
Sharma believed that Venkateshwar Rao deliberately gave him a low performance grade due to which he did not get a salary increment. On Thursday afternoon, he went to stores and purchases department with a knife and stabbed Venkateshwar Rao in the neck multiple times, the DI said.

After the assault, Rao collapsed on the spot with injuries and Sharma fled from the scene. Colleagues rushed Venkateshwar Rao to a nearby hospital for treatment. “He suffered three stab injuries on the neck and a cut on his face. Doctors said that he is out of danger,” the DI said.
Police lodged an attempt to murder case under section 307 of the IPC against Sharma. “We have launched a search to nab Sharma,” Malkajgiri ACP G Sundeep said.
