The Austrian capital Vienna has seen a continued tourism boom in the first half of 2019 with significant boosts seen in net arrivals, bed nights, and net room revenues, the Vienna Tourist Board revealed on Wednesday. Vienna has its charm and rich history to its superb location on the banks of the Danube River. For centuries the gateway between West and East Europe, it was the natural nucleus of the once sprawling Habsburg Empire, and to this day remains Austria’s most important commercial and cultural hub.

According to the tourism information, it is said that 3.6 million persons had visited the city for the year up to June, a 7.6 percent year-on-year increase.

A subsequent increase was also seen in bed nights (one person occupying a bed for one night), up 9.9 percent to 7.94 million. Net room revenues, for which data is currently available until the end of May, increased by an even greater 23.5 percent to reach just under 360 million euros (401 million U.S. dollars). The tourist board of Vienna noted that boosts in bed nights were recorded from all of Vienna’s most important markets, including Germany (up 5 percent), China (up 8 percent), the U.S. (up 10 percent), and the UK (up 6 percent).

Vienna Tourist Board Director Norbert Kettner was pleased with the results, and said he hopes the boost in room revenues in particular can be maintained.
