BENGALURU: Unidentified miscreants struck a private bank on
Siddaiah Puranik Road in Basaveshwaranagar, west Bengaluru, on Sunday night and fled with Rs 1.6 lakh and valuables from a customer’s locker.
Basaveshwaranagar police said the incident came to light at 9.15am on Monday, when Varun, assistant manager of Bandhan Bank’s Basaveshwaranaga branch, arrived to open the bank. Varun found the padlocks of the door replaced and could not open them. He immediately alerted bank manager Gowrav Sannayal.
Bank officials later opened the door with the help of police and found out that the miscreants had switched off the main electrical switch, disabled the emergency alarm and disconnected the fire alarm.
Police said the burglars had disconnected the fire alarm using gas cutters. They also used gas cutters to open a bank chest and three customers’ lockers, of which two were empty. They had not been allocated to any customer .
The bank officials informed police that the burglars had taken away Rs 1,68,966 from the bank chest and valuables from the safety locker number 41 belonging to Shankarappa Vagdarikar.
“Bank officials have no clue about what was kept inside Shankarappa’s locker. They will inform us about it once they collect details from Shankarappa,” said an officer.
