The work of the state and municipal governments, as well as the regional governing bodies, was done with the guidance of Ministry of Tourism, which provided video and guiding documents with the objective of solving doubts and helping cities to register in the program. Currently, the Tourism Map has 3,285 municipalities, which are divided into 328 tourist regions.
According to interim tourism minister Daniel Nepomuceno, “it is very important for states to be alert to the criteria presented, because with them we can define precise public policies to develop tourism in each region. With the Map, we will identify the cities that have tourism, which will facilitate the management and application of resources and benefiting destinations in their needs and talents”, he said.
All municipalities in the regions of the Map are considered, by the MTur Tourism Regionalization Program, tourist destinations or support destinations that can contribute or benefit from the generation of employment and income induced by the activity of the tourism sector.
The Brazilian Tourism Map was instituted in December 2013 and is updated every two years from 2016. The states, in partnership with the municipalities, have autonomy to define tourist regions, including or removing destinations.
It is expected that in August the ordinance will be published that defines the number of municipalities and tourist regions that should compose the Brazilian Tourism Map 2019.
