The telegraph is considered as one of the greatest technological stepping stones linking the pre-industrial world to the interconnected global village we all live in today. English inventor William Fothergill Cooke and scientist Charles Wheatstone made the first electric telegraph communication on 25 July, 1837. The communication was made between the station rooms at Camden Town and London Euston. Reuters revolutionised the newspaper industry by setting up telegram service in 1851 to supply foreign news to papers. Telegraph, however, soon saw its decline with the rise of telephone and the nationalisation of the telephone network.
