Fire in chemical unit godown

A major fire broke out in a chemical factory godown at Prerana compound situated in Dapoda village at Bhiwandi on Tuesday , and spread to the nearby rubber and cloth godowns. There were no casualties, but property worth crores was damaged.
Bhiwandi fire brigade received a call about the incident at 1.47am, but as the fire spread they called in teams from Kalyan, Thane and Mumbai. D N Salvi, Bhiwandi chief fire officer, said: "Due to the narrow road, it was difficult for all our vehicles to reach the spot. We managed to control the fire after 18 hours-at 8pm."
