Harsimrat Badal writes to Amarinder Singh for aid package to houses damaged during rains

BATHINDA: After heavy rains and waterlogging resulting into damage to crops and houses in Bathinda, Union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday wrote a letter to Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh asking him to get the special girdawari conducted and announce aid package to help people rebuild their damaged houses.
In the demi official letter, Harsimrat has written that paddy and cotton growing farmers have incurred losses as the fields have inundated due to heavy rains in the last few days. By the times the fields will be de- watered the farmers will be left with no time to sow the crop again. She says further that poor sections of society are worst sufferers as their houses have badly damaged which need extensive repair or even rebuilding. The houses in urban areas too have developed cracks due to water logging.


The administration should be directed to make immediate arrangements for water drainage and the drainage system should be upgraded to avoid similar situation in future, she wrote adding she hopes that the state government will be sensitive towards pain and suffering of the people and will do the needful.
