Palanpur: The court of additional chief judicial magistrate in Deesa Banaskantha on Wednesday issued arrest warrant against former Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor, who recently joined the BJP.
The warrant was issued after Thakor failed to appear thrice before court despite being issued summons in connection with a criminal defamation case against him, said special public prosecutor S M Modi.
Talking to TOI Modi said, Thakor had allegedly made derogatory remarks against the then superintendent of police Niraj Badgujar during a meeting in Asheda village of Banaskantha and accused him of taking bribe.
Badgujar with the permission of the state government had filed the defamation case against Thakor in March 2018. “Thakor had moved session court and later high court against the plea filed by Badgujar, but both courts had denied him relief in the case,” said Modi.
Modi added that Thakor did not come to record his statement despite several summons and even his pleader SY Mandari was not aware of this.
Thakor and his close aide Dhavalsinh Zala joined the BJP on July 18 after resigning as MLAs on July 5.
