AGRA: A day after a
Canadian woman visiting Sikandra tomb claimed to have been touched on shoulder without her consent by an unidentified youth who requested for a selfie with foreign national while she was along with her Indian male friend, tourism police have decided its personnel to be in plain clothes at places frequented by tourists such as The Taj Mahal, Sikandra tomb, Fatehpur Sikri, etc, to keep a tab on miscreants who tend to engage with foreign tourists and harass them.
Speaking to TOI, CO Tourism, Mohammad Mohshin Khan, said, “Spots are being identified where there is a history of tourists being harassed by local miscreants. Our men will be deputed in such locations in plain clothes and will a keep tab on movement of miscreants. Anyone found harassing or troubling the tourist will be dealt with stringent punishment.”
“We also request tourists especially foreign nationals to immediately contact local police by either diailling distress call at 100 or calling SHO Tourism CUG 9454402764 in case they are being subjected to harassment in tourist locations based in
Agra,” said CO Khan.
In Agra there have been scores of incidents where nationals have been harassed or assaulted by local residents in past.
One such famous case was reported in October month of 2017, when a Swiss couple was attacked by a group of teenagers in Fatehpur Sikri area while the couple were exploring the rustic and barren land around the monument.
