The National Green Tribunal has directed the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to consider evolving a mechanism to tackle unregulated scrapping of vehicles.
A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said, “We would like to note that scrapping of vehicles in a scientific manner may need to be taken up on (an) organised basis. Current capacity to scientifically scrap vehicles is hardly adequate ... there is need to evolve an appropriate mechanism to set up authorised recycling centres compliant with the environmental norms and prohibit unorganised, unscientific and unauthorised scrapping activity.”
