‘Ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply’

Rural Development and town panchayat officials should ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to residents in the district by sinking additional borewells wherever required and setting up overhead water tanks, Shambhu Kallolikar, District Monitoring Officer and Principal Secretary, Environment and Forests Department, said here on Wednesday.

Reviewing various developmental schemes apace in the district with officials of all government departments at a meeting held here, Mr. Shambhu Kallolikar said the Chief Minister had advised officials to accord priority for drinking water works across the State.

Several schemes of the State government were being implemented in the district through various departments, he said and called upon government officials to work in a coordinated manner in ensuring its speedy execution.

He appreciated the officials for working in a coordinated manner when cyclone Gaja struck Pudukottai devastating the district in November last. An Additional Project Officer was nominated for the district to periodically review the pace of relief works meant for the people affected by the Gaja cyclone and ensure its expeditious completion.

Mr. Shambhu Kallolikar also asked the officials to ensure that kudimaramathu works aimed at improving water resources and augmenting ground water table went on without smoothly in the district.

Collector P. Uma Maheswari, District Revenue Officer Shanthi and officials of all government departments participated, an official release said.
