The last date of application is August 9, 2019. This is the eighth edition of the contest which is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Brazil
The initiative, a partnership between the Brazilian Association of Tour Operators and the Ministry of Tourism, aims to recognize projects that impact the sector through good environmental, economic and socio-cultural practices.
The award also seeks to promote Brazil’s contribution to the 2030 Agenda and the fulfillment of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, which encompass issues such as social inclusion and environmental preservation.
Interim Tourism Minister Daniel Nepomuceno encourages participation in the process.
“Sustainability is a watchword in our sector today, because of the great power of tourism to generate employment and income and also to favor nature conservation, one of our main attractions. The award induces a permanent search for innovation in the area, providing good examples to follow,” he said.
The selection, whose jury is integrated by MTur, seeks to identify, encourage and give visibility to outstanding initiatives divided into six categories: Braztoa Associates, Travel Agencies, Lodging Facilities, Tourism Partners (non-associated operators, airlines, government institutions , etc.) and Media, as well as an honorable mention of academic work.
One of the novelties of the eighth edition of the competition is the inclusion of actions taken by media professionals among the eligible proposals, in order to reinforce the dissemination of the theme to society. The materials may involve reports from print, online, radio and TV, as long as they address the issue of sustainability and were publicly published between July 1, 2018 and the last day of registration.
As a result of an evaluation made by Braztoa associates, former winners and award judges, this year’s edition will have a more simplified selection process, subdivided in phases, in order to reduce the need to present documents in the first stage, for example.
In addition, the regulation has been completely overhauled to ensure more clarity, objectivity and transparency.
“We have done this great work of immersion, debate and change together, so that we can catalyze the responsible performance of Brazilian tourism, uniting the sector around the purpose of sustainability”, justifies Braztoa president Roberto Nedelciu.
All winners will receive the ‘Braztoa Sustainability Award 2019/2020 Winner’ seal and the association will also arrange for the award recipients to be mentioned in the Braztoa 2020 Yearbook.
The jury will select one of the winners to receive other exclusive benefits, such as an institutional video of the initiative, produced by the Ministry of Tourism, and the inclusion in the Map of Sustainable Tourism in Brazil, developed by the entity in partnership with MTur, in addition to a full scholarship for a postgraduate course (EaD) from Senac-SP.
Entries can be made until 5:59 pm (Brasília time) on or before August 9.
The finalists will be known during the 47th ABAV Expo and the 52nd Braztoa Commercial Meeting, which will take place in September in São Paulo, and the announcement of the winners will take place during the 2019 Braztoa Convention, scheduled for November, in the city of Canela (RS).
Launched in 2012 by Braztoa, the award already has more than 430 registered and 79 recognized initiatives from all regions of Brazil. The categories are evaluated according to the following criteria: systemic approach to sustainability; relevance to business and local development; innovation and impact range and replicability / scalability.
In the last edition, 18 finalists were selected from 75 registered projects, out of a total of 143 registered.
