Many residents are turning towards the supermarkets for purchasing fruits and vegetables as the rythu bazaars in the city have become slushy on account of the rainfall that the city has been receiving lately.
Pockets of rythu bazaars in Patamata, Swaraj Maidan and Kaleswara Rao Market sport puddles of stagnated water due to the rainfall and farmers have set up stalls right beside them forcing potential customers to keep away from them. The area inside the market is slippery.
“Not only it is unpleasant, but also a repulsive sight to see the market in this shape every rainy season. The stench from the puddles and the fact that the vendors sit right beside it compels me to visit a super market where I can buy vegetables in a clean environment,” said Mr. Sudhakar Reddy, a resident who frequents the market.
Mr. Reddy also said that he would prefer buying vegetables from online retail platforms, albeit at a higher price.
Besides, the stagnation of the water and the foul smell resulting from the accumulation of the wet garbage waste inside the market is adding to the inconvenience.
The vendors said that the government should ensure clean environment in rythu bazaars.
“To set up stalls beside puddles and other dirty pockets of the market is extremely difficult as the stench it generates is beyond our tolerance level. The authorities should ensure the market is kept clean as a lot of vendors and customers alike depend on it,” said Masthamma, a trader at the Patamata rythu bazaar.
Officials at the Estate Office of Patamata rhythu bazaar said the renovation of the flooring inside and around the markets would take place once the rains subside.
