CHENNAI: DMK president M K
Stalin and AMMK general secretary T T V
Dhinakaran on Wednesday expressed shock and dismay over the "lower cut-off marks" for
candidates from the economically weaker section (
EWS) in a recent competitive preliminary examination conducted by State Bank of India for selecting junior associates.
For the preliminary exams conducted by
SBI, the cut-off marks for selection for backward classes and scheduled classes were fixed at 61.25%, while for tribals it was 53.75%. However, for the forward community people coming under the economically weaker section (EWS) classification, the cut-off marks were surprising fixed at a low 28.5%.
"This is a glaring move to dump social justice and make employment opportunities in the central government and central PSUs beyond the reach of the already deprived backward and scheduled classes as well as tribals. The BJP government should throw out this 10% reservation for EWS segment immediately," Stalin said in post on social media.
In a tweet, Dhinakaran asked both the Centre and SBI, the largest public sector bank, on this anomaly about the EWS getting a lower cut-off, while it is much higher for backward and scheduled classes as well as tribals. "The move seeks to destroy the very base of social justice and it should be rectified immediately," Dhinakaran said.
