Jaguar XE SV Project 8 Beats Its Own Nurburgring Record At 7:18.36

Jaguar has set a sedan record for a road-going production sedan at the Nurburgring, lapping the circuit in the XE SV Project 8 in just 7 minutes and 18.361 seconds.

The British car manufacturer first headed to the famed German circuit with the XE SV Project 8 in November 2017 and set a then-record time of 7:21.23. Behind the wheel of the car this time around was Vincent Radermecker with the car rolling on a set of street-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

The car used for this latest record run was outfitted with the available Track Pack, had its coilovers set in ‘track’ mode, and had the front splitter and rear wing positioned for maximum downforce and stability.

“The original Nürburgring time set by Jaguar XE SV Project 8 demonstrated the extreme performance envelope of the world’s fastest production sedan, but the SV team is driven by a motorsport mentality and we knew Project 8 could go even faster,” Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations engineering director Jamal Hameedi said. “This new official record time is a fitting reward for everyone who has played a part in pushing the boundaries for our customers with Project 8.”

Powering the hand-assembled XE SV Project 8 is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine with no less than 592 hp. This engine is mated to an eight-speed transmission sending power to the rear wheels. Jaguar says the car can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph (321 km/h).

Jaguar is only building 300 examples of its hardcore XE and will finish production this year.
