Parliament LIVE: If Joint Select Committee rejects UAPA Bill, we will approach courts, says Home Minister Amit Shah

Live updates of the Parliament session

  • Home Minister Amit Shah: When you question us you don't see who brought the law and amendments (in reference to UAPA Amendment Bill), who made it stringent. It was brought when you (Congress) were in power, what you did then was right and what I'm doing now is also right.

  • Home Minister Amit Shah: Our only objective is that terrorists be identified as such, so that central agencies nab them and a fast-track trial can ensue.

  • Update:

Home Minister Amit Shah: Terrorism should not be politicised. If the Joint Select Committee rejects the UAPA Bill, then we will approach the courts. It is this government's prerogative to eliminate terrorism.

  • AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi in Lok Sabha on Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act Bill: I blame Congress party for this. They're the main culprits for bringing this law. When they're in power they're bigger than BJP, when they lose power they become big brother of Muslims.

  • Update:

The Opposition has decided to demand that 7 bills out of 16 bills, including RTI amendment bill, Triple Talaq Bill and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act Bill, in Rajya Sabha be sent to Joint Select Committee.
