Lightning strikes kill 43 persons in the last 48 hours in Bihar

PATNA: Altogether 43 people were killed in lightning strikes in Bihar in the last 48 hours.
At least 39 people were killed five others injured in lightning strikes in different districts in Bihar on Tuesday, the state’s disaster management department (DMD) said in a written report on Wednesday.
"As per information received through phone from different districts till 11am on Wednesday, at least 39 people were killed and five others injured," the DMD report said.
As per the report, highest eight people were killed in Jamui district, followed by seven in Aurangabad and four each in Bhagalpur, Banka and East Champaran district. Similarly, three persons were killed in Rohtas district and two each in Nalanda, Nawada and Katihar district, the DMD report said.

Among the five injured persons, three hail from Bhagalpur, one each from Jamui and Banka, the DMD figures say.
Besides 39 deaths on Tuesday, four more deaths were reported from East Champaran district on Wednesday. Two persons, including a 13-year-old girl, died in their sleep when lightning struck the asbestos roof of their house in Patpariya village under Mofussil police station area in East Champaran district, a police official said. Two others were killed in Gobindganj and Kotwa police station areas of the district as lightning strikes in the morning on Wednesday.
