A group of final-year undergraduate students of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE), Thuckalay, Kanyakumari, has alleged that they have been duped by the institution.
Students pursuing Allied Health Sciences courses in the deemed university, which is part of the Noorul Islam Educational Trust, have accused the management of duping them by conducting technical courses, despite allegedly advertising them as paramedical ones. The allegations have been refuted by the university. The students, who have uploaded a video on Facebook, alleged that they had enrolled for the courses in 2017-18 after being made to believe that classes will be held at NIMS Hospital, Neyyattinkara, and that the three-year B.Sc. programmes were paramedical courses. “Now, the university has informed us that we have been pursuing a technical course all the while,” a student alleged.
In the video clip, the students alleged that the institution had collected huge sums as donation without documentary proof. They also expressed concern that the courses were not recognised.
Charges refuted
The university authorities, however, dismissed the allegations as baseless. NICHE Registrar P. Thirumalvalavan said the institution provided various allied health science courses, including B.Sc. Perfusion Technology, B.Sc. Forensic Science and B.Sc. Renal Dialysis. “We have nowhere claimed that they are paramedical courses. There is no scope to be misled by what we offer,” he said.
He said the university had obtained approval from the University Grants Commission and was accredited by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. “Ours is a deemed-to-be university that has adequate laboratory facilities required for the courses we conduct,” he said.
