PUNE: An eight-hour delay in take-off left the “unaware” passengers of a Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight fuming at the city airport on Tuesday.
The morning flight took off at 3.20pm. “The flight was to take off from Pune at 7.20am and reach Delhi by 9.40am. An hour after I checked in, I came to know that the flight was delayed by an hour. After that, the delay just kept on increasing, with no airline official being able to provide any accurate information. The delay left many passengers at their wits’ end,” Rohit, one of the passengers, said.
SpiceJet, which has around eight departures from Pune, did not respond to the queries on the delay till the filing of the report. An airline official, however, confirmed that the flight took off at 3.20pm.

On its Twitter handle, the airline stated that the delay happened due to operational reasons. A source in the SpiceJet also confirmed that there was a technical problem in the aircraft. “Before any flight takes off, the engineers check all its components for safety. A message was sent out to the passengers in the morning that the flight was delayed and will take off at 1.30pm. However, due to some operational reasons, it further got delayed till 3.20pm,” the source said, adding that all the passengers were taken care of at the airport.
Contrary to the source’s claim, a passenger, who did not wish to be named, said he never received any message from the airline. “I live in Wakad and woke up at 3.30am to make sure that I reached the airport by 5am. The delay, however, kept on increasing, hassling the passengers. On top of that, there are hardly any facilities at the airport to help passengers kill time,” he said.
