Police hold fears for a missing British backpacker who was last seen in Melbourne's south-east on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Ebrey, 29, was last seen on Ringwood Street in Ringwood about 2pm wearing black Levi jeans, a black T-shirt, black sweatshirt, and blue and orange sneakers.

Police and family are concerned about his wellbeing because he suffers from a yet-to-be revealed medical condition.

Mr Ebrey is described as being 183 centimetres tall with bushy brown hair, a brown beard and a British accent.

He is known to frequent the CBD and St Kilda areas.

Police have released an image of Mr Ebrey in the hope someone has seen him.
