Man killed in Panvel, wife, lover held

NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel city police have arrested Preeti Rathod (22), and her lover, Gauravsingh Gaur (22) from Kanpur, for the murder of her husband Hariomsingh Rathod (30). The incident occurred at the couple’s chawl in Palaspe village of Panvel taluka on Monday.
According to police, Preeti and Gaur were in a relationship for the past eight years. But, after Gaur came to Panvel with a job, Preeti was married to Rathod in Kanpur in May. She did not persuade her parents about Gaur as an inter-caste marriage would have landed them in trouble. Gaur returned to Kanpur and met Preeti and they planned to kill her husband. She introduced Gaur to her in-laws as her friend’s brother and claimed that he could find Rathod a job and told her in-laws that they were going to Delhi.
After reaching Kanpur railway station, Gaur and Preeti convinced Rathod that he could get a job for him in Panvel. The trio landed in Panvel on Tuesday and rented a chawl house. In the afternoon, Preeti borrowed a kitchen knife from their neighbour. Soon, the neighbour heard a commotion but found their door locked. Later, Rathod was found lying in pool of blood, while the two had blood on their clothes.
They initially claimed that Rathod had committed suicide, but were detained under circumstantial evidence. Later, they confessed to have killed Rathod.
