What to expect at the One Piece-themed attractions

Join Monkey D Luffy and his gang of Straw Hat Pirates at Ocean Park in Hong Kong. Fans of Japanese manga will be familiar with the adventure/fantasy series One Piece, which celebrates 20 years of its existence by collaborating with the theme park for the vacation season.

Expect seven themed water attractions that recreate iconic scenes from the series, including the Ultimate One Piece Water War, based on the Battle of Marineford. The battleground is set in a maze, where a group of eight can wade through ankle-deep water, pass through a waterfall, a jet tunnel, a cave and other challenges. Watch out for hidden Marines, who will bombard you with water cannons. Perfect if you’re travelling with a group of friends.

Bounty posters act as interactive photo booths, while a gigantic straw hat provides a zone to splash around. Foam parties, mist arches, water curtains and fountains await kids at the Little Pirates play area. Fans can also meet and greet the characters, and take in the Splashtastic Summer Dance Party featuring dancers and their energetic moves. For a classic theme park experience, head to the game booths to win One Piece plushies.

When you have changed into dry outfits — we guarantee you that you will get drenched at some point — head for lunch to The Terrace Café for a One Piece-themed meal. Skeleton-face Brook tops a prawn croquette, Luffy’s straw hat is recreated with biscuits that sit atop tender wagyu beef steaks, and a wanted poster is printed on the charcoal-infused chocolate mousse. Take home ceramic bowls featuring Thousand Sunny, the pirate ship, and glasses with your favourite characters.

If you’re looking to explore the theme park beyond just these attractions, check in at the Ocean Park Marriott Hotel, a stone’s throw from the entrance. The SummerFeast Family getaway package includes complimentary Ocean Park tickets for two adults and one child, one night’s stay in a Deluxe King Room (approximately ₹20,000 per room per night), and a HK$1,000 (around ₹10,000) dining voucher.

The One Piece promotion is on till September 1. For details and bookings, visit oceanpark.com.hk.
