Listen to a yowie: Teenagers stargazing in a remote forest claim to have the first audio recording of mythical creature after hearing 'deep moaning growling'

  • Two teenagers claim they have captured audio evidence of a mythical yowie

  • The audio follows the discovery of a metre-long 'footprint' in the same area

Two teenagers who were out stargazing in the Gold Coast hinterland claim to have captured the first audio evidence of a mythical yowie.

Harrison Ryan and Dalton Bell say they were out in the bush at about 10.30pm last Thursday when they heard the 'deep, moaning growl'.

In the audio clip one of the teens can be heard telling the other to be quiet before a loud groan can be heard that sounds as if it is echoing in the distance.

'That sounds like a cow,' says one of the teenagers.

Another growl can then be heard much louder than the first.

A zoologist has listened to the audio and says the recording is 'definitely that of a large mammal.'

Mr Ryan, 19, said the two teens spend a lot of time in the area during the day but it was the first time they had been there at night.

'We were sitting there and then started to hear the sound. It was clearly large. It was deep moaning growling, but wasn't consistent,' he told The Gold Coast Bulletin

He said they both returned two nights later to see if they could record the sound again.

'We were standing near our cars, worst case scenario we could leave quickly... We have all heard about yowies in the valley and their legends, but this was our first experience.'

Zoologist Gary Opit told the publication it was possible the noise was the bellowing of cattle but the location made him think it was a yowie.

The two teens gave the audio to Dean Harrison of Australian Yowie Research for further investigation.

The recording follows the discovery of a large metre-long 'footprint' at Mount French also in the Gold Coast hinterland and claims from a north Queensland woman she encountered the mythical creatures.

Jackie Liversidge was living in Tarzali, in the Tablelands Region of Queensland, for 11 months when she claims to have been visited by two different creatures.

Ms Liversidge said one had an athletic black figure, muscular arms, dark hollow eyes and she felt a 'strong bad feeling' upon its sighting, The Cairns Post reported.

The mother recalls sleeping in fear in the same room as her son and niece.

'On one occasion when my niece moved in with me she saw a black silhouette figure standing at her bedroom window from the verandah. She was that terrified she did not move or even yell out to me,' she said.

'I would sit on the veranda 'til 2am waiting with a large piece of wood that had a screw through it sticking out the other side.'

Her landlord advised her to contact police who offered a drive-by inspection but she refused claiming it's easy to hide in the bush.

When Ms Liversidge attempted to record the beasts, the camera would go black, she said.

She attempted to feed them fruit and meat but they never took the produce, instead leaving behind traces of their activity.

Ms Liversidge said she found two macadamia nuts in shells at her back door mat and then found a dead rat in the same spot.

'Then I found an unusual flower in perfect condition, a mix of pink and purple colour but a metallic colour that I haven't seen before, looked everywhere around the property for the plant. Didn't find one,' she said.

Ms Liversidge described it as yowies leaving behind 'gifts' and showing her what they ate.

She decided to move out of the home in 2016, with her children's safety in mind.
